Budget Day: When mother Sonia told 'reluctant' Rahul Gandhi to sit on front bench

New Delhi, July 10: In what can be described as an attempt to correct the Wednesday's 'catnap embarrassment', the 'reluctant' Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi was made to sit in the front row on Thursday for the presentation by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley maiden budget.

Rahul, who had been among the backbenchers for some time, was asked to sit in the front row of the Opposition benches by his mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

When the Congress Vice President went to his mother during the five-minute break which Jaitley took in between presenting the budget, he was told by Sonia to sit by her side.

Rahul seemed initially reluctant, but soon relented.

Rahul seemed initially reluctant, but soon relented.

Later, he was seen taking notes and also talking to Sonia and Congress's Leader in Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge.

On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi was caught live on camera when he was taking a catnap during the price rise debate in the Lok Sabha, causing an embarrassment to the belittled Congress.

Notably, the Congress has only 44 members in the 16th Lok Sabha, down from 206 in the 15th, and occupies much less of the opposition benches than the BJP did till the last session.
