BSF Issues High Alert At India-Bangladesh Border Following Hasina’s Resignation

As Bangladesh faces a severe crisis, the Border Security Force (BSF) has issued a high alert along the India-Bangladesh border. This development follows the resignation of Sheikh Hasina as Bangladesh's Prime Minister and her departure from Dhaka. A senior BSF officer confirmed that the BSF Director General has also arrived in Kolkata.

India shares an extensive border with Bangladesh, stretching over 4,000 km. The situation in Bangladesh has escalated rapidly, leading to significant unrest. On Sunday, nearly 100 people, including 14 policemen, were killed and hundreds injured in violent clashes between protesters and ruling party supporters across various parts of the country.

Bangladesh Army Chief's Address

In a national address, Bangladesh Army Chief Waker-uz-Zaman confirmed Sheikh Hasina's resignation and announced the formation of an interim government. He urged citizens to cease violence and assured that peace would be restored. "We will return peace to the country. We ask citizens to stop the violence. We will investigate all killings that have happened over the past few weeks," he stated.

The clashes erupted on Sunday morning during a non-cooperation programme led by Students Against Discrimination. The protesters demanded the government's resignation over a job quota system but faced opposition from Awami League, Chhatra League, and Jubo League activists.

Protests and Violence

Thousands of protesters took to Dhaka's streets following Hasina's resignation. The unrest resulted in fierce clashes between police and demonstrators demanding her resignation. The violence has caused significant casualties and injuries among both civilians and law enforcement personnel.

Sheikh Hasina's son has called on the Bangladesh Army to prevent any government takeover amid ongoing clashes. Reports suggest that Sheikh Hasina might be heading to West Bengal following her resignation.

The situation remains tense as authorities work towards resolving the crisis. The BSF's heightened alert aims to ensure security along the border amidst these developments.

The army chief emphasized that there is no need for curfew or emergency measures at this time, expressing confidence in finding a solution by tonight
