Brave BSF Head Constable Lal Fam Kima Saves Colleagues in Counter-Terrorist Operation
Read about the heroic act of BSF Head Constable Lal Fam Kima, who fearlessly saved the lives of his colleagues during a counter-terrorist operation along the India-Pakistan border.
In a tragic incident, BSF Head Constable Lal Fam Kima was killed in an unprovoked sniper fire from Pakistan along the International Border in Jammu on Thursday. Known for his fearlessness and bravery, Kima had once saved the lives of a dozen of his colleagues during an anti-terrorist operation along the LoC (Line of Control) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Kima's courage was evident during an operation in winters of 1998-99 when he single-handedly took down a terrorist holed up inside a mud house in Gool village located in the upper reaches of Pir Panjal range along the India-Pakistan Line of Control (LoC). "Tum sala pin nikalega," Kima had shouted as he emptied his light machine gun (LMG) to take out the enemy.
A Tribute To The Fallen Soldier
The memory of this brave act was recalled by Kimas' then commanding officer (CO), who wrote an emotional post that was shared with multiple Border Security Force (BSF) officers over social media platforms. He remembered how Kima's alertness and bravery were often quoted to young officers and troops as examples during their training periods.
An Unfortunate Loss
On Thursday, 50-year-old Kima fell victim to a Pakistani sniper bullet hit from across the border while serving at Ramgarh sector along India-Pakistan International Border. A resident of Aizawl, he joined BSF back in 1996 and at present served with the 148th BSF battalion entrusted with guarding IB.
A True Hero Remembered
In his tribute post, Kimas’ former CO recounted another instance where Kima displayed exceptional alertness during one such encounter. When the militants blew themselves up in order to carry out a suicide attack, it was Kima who spotted a dying terrorist trying to detonate a grenade. His quick action saved many lives that day.
Saluting The Martyr
Kima's fearless spirit remained undeterred even as he rose from being a young constable of two-three years of service to becoming a Head Constable. "This simple, humble and unassuming warrior lived bravely and laid down his life bravely," wrote his former CO in the post shared amongst several BSF personnel and officers.
A Final Farewell
A wreath was laid at the mortal remains of Kima in Jammu before his body was sent back to his home state Mizoram. He is survived by his mother, wife, two daughters and a son; leaving behind not just grieving family but also countless colleagues who remember him for his bravery on field.
In conclusion, Lal Fam Kima's story serves as an inspiration for all those serving in the armed forces. His dedication towards duty, courage under fire and selfless act of bravery will forever be remembered by those who had the honour of serving with him. While we mourn this loss today, we also salute this brave soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation's security.
