Delhi Liquor Policy Case: Big News On BRS Leader K Kavitha's Bail

Order on jailed Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and daughter of former Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrashekar Rao's daughter, K Kavitha's interim bail plea was reserved by Delhi's Rouse Avenue court on Thursday. K Kavitha was arrested by a team of Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on March 15 from her Hyderabad residence in connection with the money laundering related to the now-scrapped Delhi Liquor Policy.

According to the reports, the court will pronounce the order on April 8, 2024. K Kavitha has requested the court to give her some relief citing her son's exams, who is not able to cope without his mother.

The BRS leader's regular bail application has been listed for a hearing on April 20.

Presenting K Kavitha's bail petition, senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi requested the court to give her 'benefit of bail' under the proviso to Section 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). "The first point flows from Section 45 PMLA itself. It has so-called twin conditions... I am interested in proviso. It says, woman. My point is that of course your lordship is not obliged to give me bail. But equally, your lordship is not hidebound or straitjacketed by the twin conditions," Singhvi said before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja.

From the other side, the representative for ED, Advocate Zoheb Hossain, opposed the bail stating "proviso to Section 45 of PMLA is not for a woman who is in public life and leading politician of the state."

Regarding her son's exams, Hossain said seven out of twelve exams of her son are already done and he has his father and the rest of the family members to support him.

However, the Delhi Court reserved its verdict for Monday, which will tell whether she will come out or stay behind the bars.
