Bravery Of A 12-Year-Old Helps Avert A Major Train Accident| Know More

A 12-year-old boy from West Bengal showcased remarkable heroism when he prevented a potential train catastrophe by employing his red t-shirt as an improvised warning flag. This heart-pounding incident unfolded near a railway yard located in Malda, West Bengal, just last Thursday.

As per a report in India today, the young protagonist of this story is Mursaleen Sheikh, the son of a migrant worker employed at the very same railway yard. On that fateful day, Mursaleen was present at the yard, along with several other laborers. It was during this routine day that he noticed a section of railway tracks near the yard had sustained significant damage. As fate would have it, a passenger train was hurtling towards this treacherous stretch of track at a dangerous speed.

Without a moment's hesitation, Mursaleen sprang into action. Swiftly, he removed his red t-shirt and unfurled it, vigorously waving it as an urgent signal to the approaching train. Miraculously, the vigilant locomotive pilot of the train caught sight of this impromptu red flag and immediately initiated emergency braking procedures, averting a major accident.

Sabyasachi De, the spokesperson for the North-East Frontier Railway, as quoted by India Today shared his thoughts on the incident, saying, "In Malda, a 12-year-old child used his red shirt to signal a train, prompting the loco-pilot to apply emergency brakes and halt the passenger train. The child's quick thinking was prompted by the heavy rains, which had caused damage to the railway track."

He further commended the young hero, noting, "In the face of the rain-induced damage to the tracks, this child demonstrated remarkable presence of mind and acted swiftly."

In recognition of his exceptional bravery, railway authorities honored Mursaleen with a certificate of valor and a cash reward. Additionally, the local Member of Parliament and the divisional rail manager visited Mursaleen's home to personally extend their congratulations.

Meanwhile, diligent repair work was promptly carried out on the damaged portion of the railway track, ensuring the safe resumption of train operations, thus closing this chapter of heroism with a happy ending.
