North Block Bomb Threat Email Found to Be a Hoax, Authorities Confirm

On Wednesday, a bomb threat caused a stir at the North Block, the location of the home ministry office in Delhi, but was later confirmed to be a hoax. The alert was triggered by an email received around 3:30 pm by a senior official at the ministry. The email ominously warned of an explosion due to a bomb allegedly planted within the building. This prompted an immediate and thorough investigation by the Delhi Police and fire services.

Bomb Threat at North Block a Hoax

The sender of the email, which led to a swift deployment of emergency services including police, fire department personnel, a dog squad, and bomb disposal teams, remains unidentified. According to a police officer involved in the investigation, efforts are underway to trace the IP address and other details of the email, which was sent from an anonymous Gmail account using a VPN to hide its origin. The Delhi Police Special Cell is likely to register a case as they delve deeper into this incident.

Fire official Prem Lal noted that two fire tenders were present at the scene as part of the comprehensive search operation. After a meticulous examination of the premises, authorities declared the bomb threat unfounded. "A thorough search has been carried out in the entire building and nothing suspicious has been found," confirmed a source within the home ministry. This incident adds to a series of bomb threat emails that have targeted various establishments across Delhi in recent weeks.

Notably, Delhi's Chacha Nehru Hospital received a bomb threat on April 30, followed by over 150 schools receiving similar threats from a Russia-based mailing service on May 1. Additionally, on May 12, twenty hospitals, the IGI Airport, and the Northern Railways CPRO office in Delhi were targeted with bomb threats via emails from a Cyprus-based service. The series continued with seven Delhi hospitals and Tihar Jail receiving threats from the same Cyprus-based company on May 14. The Delhi Police is actively investigating these email bomb threats in an effort to ensure public safety and apprehend those responsible for these hoaxes.

The recurrence of such threats has put security agencies on high alert, prompting rigorous checks and investigations to prevent any potential harm. These incidents underscore the challenges faced by security forces in maintaining safety amidst false alarms that strain resources and incite public fear.
