BMC polls: BJP, MNS to woo voters with music progs, consumer fairs

Mumbai, Oct 25: With an eye on the ensuing 2017 elections to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), BJP and the MNS each in their own way have taken recourse to staging music concerts and selling commodities at cheaper rates ahead of festival Diwali.

The BJP is organising music concerts titled "Musical Morning" at Dahisar, Mulund, Goregaon, Dadar and Girgaon, while MNS activist from Kurla, Sanjay Turde is making available major grocery items at subsidised rates to poor people through the MNS Grahak Panchayat or Grahak Peth that he has been organising at Kurlas Bailbazar area.

Taking note of the love for classical music amongst Maharashtrians, Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar has decided to organise musical concerts of well known classical signers like Ravindra Sathe, Uttara Kelkar, Shrikant Narayan, Sonali Karnik, Chintamani Sohoni, Kavita Nikam, actors like Tushar Dalvi and Sampada Kulkarni among others.

Beside this, the events will be attended by Marathi singers, actors, writers, political leaders and others. "First of the event will be organised in Dahisar East on October 28, on October 29 at Mulund gymkhana, on October 30 at Nagri Niwara Parishad, Goregaon East, on October 31 at Raja Bade

Chowk, Shivaji Park, Dadar West and on November 1 at Sahitya Sangam at Girgaon," Shelar said. Entry for all the events is free.

Turde has been organising consumer fairs for the poor for a year now and now boasts of 5,000 membership.

Daily essential grocercy items like wheat, rice, sugar, oil and other such items are sold at subsidised rates.

"The prices of these items can cost any family up to Rs 1,600, but at the MNS Grahak Peth these items are sold at Rs 980," Turde said. MNS general secretary Rita Gupta said that the attempt is to strike a balance and help people in coping with rising inflation.
