In a set back a close confidante of Rahul Gandhi quit the Congress to join the BJP in the poll bound Gujarat. Jung Bahadur Singh switched sides just ahead of the visit by BJP president Amit Shah to the state.

Jung Bahadur Singh had resigned as Congress General Secretary only three days ago soon after Rahul Gandhi's visit to his parliamentary constituency. About half a dozen pradhans, several panchayat members and Congress workers also took the membership of the BJP along with the rebel Congress leader.
The Union Minister and party Lok Sabha candidate in 2014 from Amethi, Smriti Irani visited Singh's residence and congratulated him. "His own trusted leaders are deserting Rahul Gandhi in his parliamentary constituency. This shows that party men are not happy with his style of development and Congress policies," she said.
Meanwhile, massive arrangements have been made by the BJP to make party President Amit Shah's rally a big success at Gauriganj in Congress stronghold.
