Will Sutak Kaal Be Applicable In India?
Sutak Kaal, a period considered inauspicious in Hindu traditions, is observed during solar and lunar eclipses. It is believed to start nine hours before the eclipse and last until it ends. During this period, it is traditionally advised not to eat food, perform religious rituals, or even step outside, particularly for pregnant women.
Since the upcoming lunar eclipse will not be visible in India, Sutak Kaal will not be applicable during this event.
Lunar Eclipse Myths
As per the same report, several myths surround lunar eclipses. One popular belief is that the eclipse occurs due to the actions of the demons Rahu and Ketu. According to Hindu mythology, they tried to drink the nectar of immortality but were exposed by the Moon. Lord Vishnu then severed their heads, and lunar eclipses happen when Rahu and Ketu attempt to swallow the Moon.
Another myth suggests that the Moon is cursed by a sage, causing it to experience eclipses. Some traditions also prohibit drinking water during a lunar eclipse.
Precautions During a Lunar Eclipse
During a lunar eclipse, certain precautions are traditionally observed. Pregnant women are advised to avoid physical exertion and stay indoors. It is also recommended to practice meditation for mental peace and positivity.
To protect the eyes, people are advised not to look directly at the eclipse but to use telescopes or other viewing aids for a safe observation experience.
