BJP man places Rs 11 lakh bounty on Mamata Banerjee's head, BJP disowns it

Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi claimed that the party disowned the comment. "I condemn this type of statement. The state government can take proper action," the minister said in parliament

Hours after its youth wing leader announced a bounty of Rs 11 lakh on West Bengal Chief Minister's head, the BJP disowned the statement and condemned it in parliament. Claiming that the party condemned such statements, Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi appealed to the state government to take appropriate action. Even as the BJP attempted to distance itself from the statement, the opposition tore into the government.

A leader of the BJP's youth wing, Yogesh Varshney courted controversy after placing a bounty of Rs 11 lakh on Mamata Banerjee's head. Yogesh Varshney had said that he would pay Rs 11 lakh to anyone who beheads west Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee. Reiterating that he didn't utter the words by mistake, the youth wing leader repeated his offer twice.

Yogesh Varshney claimed that he was angered after watching videos of lathi charge in Suri, Birbhum district by authorities to disperse a rally raising slogans of "Jai Sri Ram" on Hanuman Jayanti.

Yogesh first said that the lathi charge was unfortunate but did not stop at merely condemning the incident. The former president of BJYM Aligarh mandal claimed that the people in the rally were not affiliated to any political party but were mere 'devotees'. The Suri police on Sunday had claimed that no rallies or meetings would be allowed on Tuesday. People started gathering despite the order.
