Omar Abdullah Accuses BJP of Seeking Hung Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir to Maintain Governor's Rule

Omar Abdullah, vice president of the National Conference (NC), has accused the BJP of aiming for a hung assembly in Jammu and Kashmir. He claims this would allow the governor's rule to persist in the Union Territory. Abdullah insists that the people will not let this plan succeed. He shared these views while speaking to reporters in Budgam district.

BJP Aims for Hung Assembly in J&K

Abdullah believes that the BJP wants unclear election results to justify continued governor's rule. This would enable them to argue before the Supreme Court that elections were held, but no party received a clear mandate. He expressed confidence that the NC-Congress alliance will secure a majority, based on initial election results and ongoing campaigning.

BJP's Alleged Strategy

The NC leader is optimistic about his alliance's prospects. "What the results of the first phase are and what I am seeing in the campaigning for the second phase, there is no scope of falling short of the majority," he stated. Abdullah also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for repeatedly targeting political families like the Abdullahs, Muftis, and Gandhis during his visits to Jammu and Kashmir.

Abdullah urged Modi to introduce fresh topics beneficial for Jammu and Kashmir, as people are weary of hearing about these families in every election. "There should be new dialogue, something which is good for J-K. We have been hearing about the three families in every election, the people have got tired," he remarked.

Political Alliances and Criticisms

He also addressed remarks by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, who accused NC of initially aligning with BJP. Abdullah clarified that while NC was part of NDA, they never allowed BJP's entry into Jammu and Kashmir. "Mufti has a habit of making speeches in strange ways," he said, adding that they even won a parliamentary seat from BJP during their alliance.

Abdullah criticised Mufti for not apologising for her role in bringing BJP into Jammu and Kashmir politics in 2014. He suggested she should apologise for her actions during 2015-16 instead of blaming others. "The people of J-K very well know who brought the BJP here," he added.

Support from Apni Party

The NC vice president welcomed support from Apni Party leader Muntazir Mohiuddin from Budgam. Mohiuddin withdrew his nomination papers and backed Abdullah for better representation of the people. "It is a good thing. I am thankful to him," Abdullah said, hoping this support would strengthen their campaign.

Mohiuddin explained his decision by stating that Jammu and Kashmir residents have been deprived of their rights. He emphasised the importance of electing a leader who can advocate for their interests. After consulting friends and well-wishers, he decided to support Omar Abdullah as former chief minister.

The political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir remains complex with various alliances and accusations shaping its future. As elections progress, parties continue to strategise and seek support to secure governance in the region.
