BJP Using Article 370 To Weaken Congress In Jharkhand, Maharashtra Polls, Claims Farooq Abdullah
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is intensifying its criticism of the Congress over Article 370, aiming to weaken the opposition and secure victories in Maharashtra and Jharkhand elections, according to Farooq Abdullah, president of the National Conference (NC). Despite this, Abdullah expressed confidence that the INDIA bloc will succeed in these state elections.
Political Dynamics and Election Strategies
Abdullah assured that efforts to undermine Congress would not succeed. He stated, "They (BJP) are thinking that they will weaken the Congress but we will not allow that to happen." He remained optimistic about the INDIA alliance's prospects in upcoming polls.

When questioned about Congress leaders' remarks on Article 370's absence from a recent Jammu and Kashmir Assembly resolution, Abdullah attributed it to BJP's electoral tactics. He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah frequently target Congress to gain an electoral edge.
Restoration of Statehood
Addressing concerns about Jammu and Kashmir's statehood restoration, Abdullah was firm in his belief that it would be reinstated. He remarked on past skepticism regarding Assembly elections in the region, which eventually took place despite BJP's claims of forming a government.
Abdullah responded sharply when asked about statehood restoration timelines. He questioned expectations for immediate action from the Centre, highlighting the NC government's recent formation. "Statehood will be returned (to Jammu and Kashmir) and I have no doubt over it," he asserted.
Criticism of Political Parties
Regarding criticism from Kashmir-based parties linking NC's resolution to Article 370, Abdullah acknowledged their right to question. He emphasized transparency by stating that their election manifesto is publicly available and being adhered to.
In response to Amit Shah's statement on Modi's intent to amend the Waqf Act despite opposition resistance, Abdullah sarcastically referred to Modi as "the king" who acts as he pleases. This comment reflects his disapproval of perceived unilateral decision-making by the ruling party.
Unity in Diversity
Reacting to BJP's slogan "Batenge Toh Katenge," Abdullah questioned its meaning, emphasizing India's unity. He stated, "India is about unity in diversity. As long as we strengthen our diversity, India will be strong." His remarks underline the importance of embracing diversity for national strength.
Abdullah remains hopeful about Jammu and Kashmir regaining statehood while expressing confidence in the INDIA bloc's electoral success. His comments highlight ongoing political tensions and strategies as parties prepare for crucial state elections.
