Akali Dal's Badal: BJP Won't Form Next Government Amid Regional Rise

In a bold statement on Monday, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed his view that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is facing significant setbacks across several regions in India, including north India, Maharashtra, and Bihar. Speaking to reporters in Bathinda, Badal suggested that the evolving political landscape might prevent the BJP from forming the next government at the Centre. He highlighted the increasing strength of regional parties in this changing scenario.

BJPs Govt Formation Challenged: Badal

Badal, who served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, criticized the BJP's current strategies and remarked on the Prime Minister's speeches, which he believes show the party in a state of panic. He accused the party of attacking a particular community and making unfounded claims about cultural symbols like mangalsutras. According to him, such tactics were unprecedented in the last 70 years and indicated a desperate shift in the party's approach.

The SAD leader also touched upon the party's past association with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), from which it exited in 2020 due to disagreements over three central farm laws. These laws have since been repealed following widespread protests.

Addressing the political climate in Punjab, Badal voiced concerns over the disillusionment among Punjabis with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leadership under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He accused both AAP and Congress of being two sides of the same coin, suggesting a covert alliance between them at the national level. Badal confidently claimed that SAD would emerge as a dominant force in Punjab post-Lok Sabha polls, citing the party's commitment to communal harmony and all-round development.

The SAD chief also shared insights into the ongoing 'Punjab Bachao Yatra', which he said is garnering significant support across constituencies. He predicted historic election results for SAD, driven by what he perceives as a strong emotional connection between the party and the people of Punjab.

Highlighting development issues in Bathinda, Badal criticized both the previous Congress government and the current AAP administration for neglecting the constituency. He reminisced about the developmental projects initiated during SAD's tenure, including AIIMS Bathinda, a central university, a refinery, a cancer hospital, and an airport. He expressed confidence in his wife, Harsimrat Kaur Badal's victory in Bathinda by a substantial margin.

In his concluding remarks, Badal urged Punjabis to be wary of political turncoats who have switched allegiances from their original parties. He was campaigning for senior SAD leader N.K. Sharma in Patiala Lok Sabha segment and criticized leaders from BJP, Congress, and AAP for their lackluster performance. Specifically pointing out Preneet Kaur and Dharamvira Gandhi for betraying their parties, he cautioned voters against trusting such leaders in the upcoming elections.
