BJP Achieves Significant Victory in Delhi Elections, Dominating Purvanchali and Punjabi Voter Bases
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a significant comeback in Delhi, securing power after 26 years. They achieved this by gaining support from diverse voter groups, including Purvanchalis, Sikhs, Jats, and slum residents. The BJP's victory was marked by winning 48 out of 70 seats in the assembly, effectively displacing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from its stronghold.

In constituencies along the Haryana border, the BJP demonstrated strong performance by winning nine out of 11 seats. This success followed accusations by AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal against the BJP-led Haryana government regarding pollution in the Yamuna River. Meanwhile, the Congress party failed to secure any seats, repeating its poor performance from 2015 and 2020.
Voter Demographics and Constituency Performance
The BJP excelled in areas with significant Purvanchali populations, such as Laxmi Nagar, Sangam Vihar, and Karawal Nagar. Here, they won 25 out of 35 seats. In regions like Najafgarh, Narela, and Bijwasan with a notable Haryanvi presence, the party secured 12 out of 13 seats. Additionally, they claimed four out of seven seats dominated by slum dwellers.
The party's success extended to constituencies with more than 10 per cent Sikh voters, where they won three out of four seats. In areas like Hari Nagar and Janakpuri with Punjabi voters exceeding 10 per cent, they captured 23 out of 28 seats. The BJP also performed well among Gujjar voters, winning two out of five seats.
Reserved Seats and Border Constituencies
In reserved constituencies, the BJP managed to win four out of 12 seats, including Mangolpuri. They also succeeded in areas with over 10 per cent Jat voters by winning 11 out of 13 seats. Among Valmiki voters, they secured four out of nine seats and six out of 12 among Jatav voters.
The BJP fielded six Purvanchali candidates and saw four emerge victorious. Among their Haryanvi candidates, 12 out of 14 won their races. In total, the party claimed victory in 16 out of 22 border constituencies shared with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh—seven along the UP border and nine along the Haryana border.
This election outcome highlights the BJP's ability to connect with a broad spectrum of voters across Delhi's diverse constituencies. Their strategic focus on key demographics played a crucial role in their electoral success.
