BJP's Suvendu Adhikari Promises Legal Aid to Teachers Affected by Supreme Court Job Loss Ruling
Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari met with teachers whose jobs were invalidated by a Supreme Court decision. During his visit to Ranaghat in Nadia district, he promised them legal assistance. The court had found irregularities in the 2016 recruitment process, leading to over 25,000 teaching and non-teaching staff losing their jobs. Adhikari blamed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the situation faced by these qualified candidates.

The affected individuals claimed that the School Service Commission failed to distinguish between those who secured jobs fraudulently and those who did not. Adhikari encouraged the teachers to continue attending their schools, assuring them of legal support. He urged them to file individual writ petitions, stating, "Today I met 20-25 teachers, many of them women. They are heartbroken. I told them the law is on your side. Truth is on your side. I said we will give you legal support."
Recruitment Process Concerns
Adhikari criticised the previous education minister, Partha Chatterjee, for compromising the autonomy of the School Service Commission (SSC). He accused Chatterjee of establishing a puppet recruitment board to manipulate the hiring process. Adhikari emphasised that identifying the exact number of tainted and untainted candidates is possible despite the confusion caused by Mamata Banerjee's government.
He further stated that former High Court judge and current MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay would ensure fairness in this matter. "The BJP thinks the exact number of tainted and untainted candidates can be arrived at. The process was muddled by this incompetent Mamata Banerjee government, but we will not let that happen, the SC did not and will not let that happen. Former High Court judge and our present MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay will not let that happen," he said.
Political Implications
Adhikari called for deserving candidates to demand Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's removal to ensure transparent recruitment in the future. He believes this step is crucial for cleaning up corruption in the recruitment process. At a function in Ranaghat, Adhikari expressed his vision for West Bengal under BJP leadership, aiming to establish Ram Rajya.
He encouraged widespread participation in Ram Navami rallies by all sanatani Hindus. Meanwhile, black flags and posters demanding Suvendu Adhikari's departure were seen near his event venue. However, he dismissed their significance and remained focused on his agenda.
The situation highlights ongoing political tensions in West Bengal regarding recruitment practices and governance. The BJP continues to challenge Mamata Banerjee's administration while promising support to those affected by past recruitment irregularities.
