BJP Shares Mamata Banerjee's Video Scolding Hospital CEO, Staff After Attack On Abhishek Banerjee

A video of Mamata Banerjee berating a Kolkata hospital chief over treatment for Abhishek Banerjee has sparked political tension. The clip, shared by a BJP leader, emerged hours after Abhishek Banerjee was attacked by a crowd in Sonarpur, triggering sharp claims and counterclaims between Trinamool Congress and BJP.

The recording allegedly captures Mamata Banerjee scolding Belle Vue Hospital chief executive Pradeep Tandon about the handling of Abhishek Banerjee’s case. In the clip, Mamata Banerjee is heard saying, "Sorry Mr Tandon, you have done the wrong thing. Please remember what else we have done for you. God will not excuse you. You made a mistake. You should be ashamed of it. Everybody will remember your arrogance," followed by, "You are running the hospital and threatening the doctors because the BJP is in power. Tomorrow, if the central government is not there, we will take care of it."

Abhishek Banerjee was taken to Belle Vue Hospital soon after the assault, but doctors decided against admitting Abhishek Banerjee. The hospital later issued a statement saying, "There is no serious physical sign of injury except for bruises on the chest. Patient is talking and is fully conscious and oriented," indicating only minor injuries after checks.

Despite that discharge note, Mamata Banerjee later alleged that BJP leaders tried to influence the hospital’s stance on Abhishek Banerjee’s admission. Mamata Banerjee said, "Those who are in power are threatening the hospitals not to admit Abhishek Banerjee because they don't want him to be treated. When I was with the hospital administrator, he told me that he was getting threat calls from the police." Mamata Banerjee also claimed Abhishek Banerjee’s helmet possibly saved Abhishek Banerjee’s life.

Mamata Banerjee BJP Belle Vue Hospital Abhishek Banerjee: Sonarpur attack and political clash

The incident began when Abhishek Banerjee, who is Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and a Lok Sabha MP, visited party workers affected by post-poll violence at Sonarpur in South Paraganas. A crowd heckled Abhishek Banerjee, pushed Abhishek Banerjee, and hurled eggs, shouting 'chor, chor', with BJP leaders and locals blaming years of alleged intimidation by Abhishek Banerjee’s supporters. Abhishek Banerjee was finally given a cricket helmet and moved to safety.

After reaching safety, Abhishek Banerjee described the attack as "BJP-sponsored", a charge strongly rejected by BJP. From the BJP side, state spokesperson Debjit Sarkar circulated the phone clip and claimed Mamata Banerjee tried to pressurise Belle Vue Hospital to admit Abhishek Banerjee, despite test reports showing no serious injury. Debjit Sarkar also asked, "Is this an attempt to evade the CID summons to Abhishek Banerjee? Patients who genuinely need treatment should not suffer because of political pressure."

Police investigations into the assault have led to five arrests so far, according to officials. These arrests relate to the crowd that allegedly attacked Abhishek Banerjee in Sonarpur, as the confrontation over hospital treatment and the leaked audio continue to deepen the political dispute between Trinamool Congress and BJP in West Bengal.
