BJP Reveals Candidates for 17 Bihar Lok Sabha Seats, Excludes 3 Current MPs

In a significant political development on Sunday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its list of candidates for 17 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, introducing fresh faces and excluding three incumbent MPs, including Union Minister Ashwani Kumar Choubey. The announcement, made in New Delhi, marks a strategic reshuffle in the party's approach towards the upcoming elections.

BJP Updates Bihar LS Election List

Ashwani Kumar Choubey, who had secured the Buxar seat for a second term in 2019, finds himself replaced by Mithilesh Tiwari, a seasoned BJP leader and former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). Additionally, Chedi Paswan and Ajay Kumar Nishad, representing Sasaram and Muzaffarpur respectively, will not be contesting this time. Their seats will be contested by former MLA Shivesh Ram and newcomer Raj Bhushan Nishad.

The party has also made a strategic move in Nawada, fielding Rajya Sabha member Vivek Thakur instead of relying on its ally, the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). This decision underscores the BJP's intent to strengthen its foothold in the region.

Among the candidates are Union ministers R K Singh from Ara, Giriraj Singh from Begusarai, and Nityanand Rai from Ujiarpur. Former union ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad, Radha Mohan Singh, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, and Ram Kripal Yadav have been renominated from their respective constituencies of Patna Sahib, Purvi Champaran, Saran, and Patliputra.

Other notable re-nominations include Sanjay Jaiswal for Paschim Champaran, Ashok Kumar Yadav for Madhubani, Pradeep Kumar Singh for Araraia, and Gopal Jee Thakur for Darbhanga. Janardan Singh Sigriwal and Sushil Kumar Singh will seek re-election from Mahrajganj and Aurangabad respectively.

An interesting aspect of this candidate selection is the representation of nine candidates from the upper castes, a demographic that has historically supported the BJP in Bihar. However, the party's decision not to field any female candidates this time has drawn attention. In the previous Lok Sabha elections, Rama Devi was the lone woman representative from Bihar for the BJP. This year, her constituency of Sheohar has been allocated to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) (JDU).

The reshuffling of candidates by the BJP indicates a tactical approach to consolidate its position in Bihar. By introducing new faces and making strategic seat allocations, the party aims to optimize its electoral prospects in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
