BJP Delegation Meets President Murmu to Address Delhi Governance Crisis

A delegation of Delhi BJP MLAs met President Droupadi Murmu on Friday, seeking the dismissal of the AAP government due to a constitutional crisis following Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's imprisonment. The BJP delegation, led by Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta, submitted a memorandum to the president, requesting urgent intervention in the ongoing crisis.

BJP Seeks AAP Govt Dismissal

The memorandum highlighted concerns over the functioning of the AAP government. It stated, "The AAP government has lost all moral rights to govern and has blatantly deceived the mandate given to it by the people of Delhi." Gupta pointed out that Kejriwal's imprisonment for over four months on serious corruption charges has led to a paralysis of governance in Delhi.

Constitutional Violations and Governance Failures

The memorandum also alleged significant constitutional violations by the AAP government. It mentioned the failure to constitute the Sixth Delhi Finance Commission since April 2021, which represents a grave violation of Articles 243-I and 243-Y of the Constitution. This failure has severely impeded proper financial planning and resource allocation for the city.

Additionally, the memorandum accused the AAP government of repeatedly failing to table important reports, including those from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), in the Delhi Assembly. This suppression of vital information obstructs transparency and raises serious questions about financial propriety.

The BJP delegation included Mohan Singh Bisht, Om Prakash Sharma, Ajay Mahawar, Abhay Verma, Anil Bajpai, Jitender Mahajan, Kartar Singh, and former minister Raj Kumar Anand, who recently joined BJP after quitting AAP. They collectively urged President Murmu to take cognisance of these issues and dismiss the Delhi government.

AAP's Response to BJP's Allegations

In response, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused BJP of having no regard for the Constitution and accepting defeat even before elections are held in Delhi. The AAP stated, "The BJP approaching the President of India to dismiss the Arvind Kejriwal government shows they have accepted defeat even before the Delhi assembly elections."

The AAP further alleged that BJP's attempts to disrupt their governance were due to their inability to win elections in Delhi. "The BJP knows it can't win the elections in Delhi and their notorious Operation Lotus, a brazen attempt to buy legislators, has failed miserably," said AAP.

The party also claimed that BJP's efforts to defame AAP leaders through various conspiracies have fallen flat in court. "Desperate to seize power in Delhi, the BJP incarcerated all top AAP leaders, including Kejriwal," said AAP. They accused BJP of using backdoor tactics to impose President's rule because they cannot win upcoming elections.

The memorandum handed over by BJP also listed alleged corruption within the AAP government and obstruction of various welfare schemes initiated by the Centre in Delhi. It stated that critical administrative decisions are being delayed and essential services are severely affected due to Kejriwal's refusal to resign.

Implications for Upcoming Elections

The political tussle between BJP and AAP comes ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls due early next year. The situation remains tense as both parties continue to accuse each other of undermining democratic processes and governance.

AAP appealed to President Murmu to dismiss Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena for indulging in negative politics despite holding a constitutional office. They argued that Saxena's actions were part of BJP's strategy to disrupt their governance in Delhi.

The ongoing conflict between BJP and AAP highlights deep political divisions in Delhi. As both parties prepare for upcoming elections, their strategies and accusations will likely shape voter perceptions and influence electoral outcomes.
