Sangli road accident leaves BJP MLA Sudhir Gadgil with minor injury, police say

BJP MLA Sudhir Gadgil sustained a minor finger injury after his car collided with a motorcycle on a service road off the Ratnagiri-Nagpur highway in Sangli district, police said. Airbags deployed, helping prevent serious harm. The motorcyclist was injured and admitted to Miraj Civil Hospital; other occupants were unhurt.

BJP MLA Sudhir Gadgil suffered a minor finger injury after a road accident in Maharashtra’s Sangli district on Saturday afternoon, police said. The crash happened on a service road along the Ratnagiri-Nagpur highway. Officials said the car’s airbags opened on impact. Gadgil later received primary care and was discharged.

Police said the collision took place between Waddi and Krishna Ghat. A motorcyclist allegedly made a sudden U-turn in front of Gadgil’s vehicle. The driver tried to avoid the two-wheeler, but the motorcycle hit the car. Both vehicles were damaged, and the airbag deployment helped avert a major incident.

At the time of the accident, Gadgil was returning to Sangli. Gadgil had attended a programme in Ugar in neighbouring Karnataka. Officials said the Sangli constituency representative was travelling with several aides. The group included personal assistant Amol Kanase and security guard Nagesh Bhokare.

Photographer Vikas Gundap and driver Ganpati Darekar were also in the vehicle, police said. None of them were hurt in the crash. Gadgil’s injury was limited to one finger, officials said. The motorcyclist suffered wounds and was admitted to the Miraj Civil Hospital for treatment.

Ratnagiri-Nagpur highway accident response and medical treatment

After the crash, an 108 ambulance was sent to the location, officials said. The injured motorcyclist was taken to hospital in the ambulance. Gadgil later travelled in another vehicle to a private hospital. Gadgil received primary treatment there and was discharged, officials added.
