BJP Manifesto 2024: Key Highlights From 'Sankalp Patra' For Sports

Ahead of the 18th Lok Sabha, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the largest party in the ruling alliance, reveals its eagerly awaited manifesto, 'Sankalp Patra,' in Delhi today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and party President JP Nadda are in attendance for the unveiling.

This event coincides with the birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar, the main architect of the Indian Constitution. During the manifesto launch, several key promises were made, including pledges to enhance the sports ecosystem in India.

Here is an overview of the BJP's manifesto for sports:

The BJP declares in its manifesto the intention to host the Olympics in the nation in 2036 if it comes into power. "We will facilitate IOA to bid for hosting the Olympic Games in 2036, and develop sports infrastructure like stadiums and state-of-the-art training centres to host major international sporting events," read the manifesto.

In addition, the BJP announced its plan to introduce a new program for sportspersons, aiming to offer them benefits such as educational opportunities, employment opportunities, and promotion opportunities.

The BJP's poll pitch further said, "We will include more traditional sports under the Khelo India Scheme."

Apart from this, the BJP expressed its intention to incentivise sports goods manufacturing in collaboration with the sports ecosystem in India, aiming to advance the vision of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat.'

Furthermore, the BJP will also focus on accessibility to sports infrastructure. The formal pledge reads out, "We will continue to expand the Khelo India network and other initiatives to nurture future athletes who
can represent our nation with pride."

Lastly, the BJP mentioned its intention to support startups in sports and assist in establishing a technology ecosystem in the field of sports.

The current term of the 17th Lok Sabha Assembly is set to conclude on June 16, 2024. Voting is scheduled to commence on April 19, and the results will be announced on June 4, 2024. The elections will be conducted in seven phases: the first phase on April 19, the second phase on April 26, the third phase on May 7, the fourth phase on May 13, the fifth phase on May 20, the sixth phase on May 25, and the seventh phase on June 1, 2024.
