A young BJP worker was found hanging from a tree in Purulia Balarampur town in West Bengal on Tuesday night in what the party alleged was a political murder linked to the violent civic polls in the state earlier this month.
Scribbled on the 18-year-old's T-shirt was a chilling message, "This is for doing BJP politics from age 18. Been trying to kill you since the vote. Today you are dead."
The BJP allege that the victim, Trilochan Mahato, was killed because he had worked hard for the party in the panchayat election.
"After poor show in Purulia in the Panchayat election, Trinamool Congress workers are threatening our supporters. Yesterday, they abducted Trilochan and killed him brutally. His body was hanged from a tree," said BJP district head Vidyasagar Chakraborty, reports News 18.
Taking to twitter BJP president Amit Shah wrote: Deeply hurt by the brutal killing of our young karyakarta, Trilochan Mahato in Balarampur,West Bengal. A young life full of possibilities was brutally taken out under state's patronage. He was hanged on a tree just because his ideology differed from that of state sponsored goons.
"The present TMC govt in West Bengal has surpassed the violent legacy of Communist rule. Entire BJP mourns this tragic loss & stands firmly with Trilochan Mahato's family in this hour of grief. His sacrifice for organisation & ideology will not go in vain. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti," he wrote.
