BJP Leader Balraje Pawar Arrested for Assaulting Ex-MLA's Personal Assistant During Polls

Authorities have detained Balraje Pawar, a local BJP leader, and four others over an attack on Amrut Davkar, the personal assistant of former Maharashtra MLA Amarsingh Pandit. This incident occurred during municipal council elections in Beed district. The arrests took place late Monday, and the suspects appeared in court on Tuesday, where they were placed in police custody for a day.

The altercation began on December 2 at the Urdu Primary School polling booth in Ward No. 11 during the Georai Municipal Council elections. A minor disagreement escalated into a clash between BJP workers and their Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) allies after voting ended. Police reported that Balraje Pawar and his associates allegedly attacked Davkar at Pandit's residence following the altercation.

Escalation of Violence

In retaliation, NCP leaders Jaisinh Pandit and Prithviraj Pandit, along with their supporters, reportedly went to former MLA Laxman Pawar's home. There, vehicles were damaged, further intensifying tensions between the two groups. The situation prompted police intervention as both factions faced off against each other.

Police took suo motu cognisance of the violence and filed a case against 40 to 50 individuals from both sides based on a complaint by policeman Ramrao Aghav. Many of those involved were later released after receiving notices. However, charges under relevant sections of the BNS were added against Pawar and four others for trespassing and assaulting Pandit's assistant.

Legal Proceedings

The five individuals were apprehended on Monday night in Georai town. They were brought before a local court on Tuesday, which remanded them to one day of police custody. The investigation continues as authorities seek to resolve the conflict stemming from the municipal council polls.

This incident highlights ongoing political tensions in the region, with law enforcement actively working to maintain order and address any further disturbances. The situation remains under close scrutiny as authorities aim to prevent future clashes between political factions.
