BJP Condemns Mallikarjun Kharge's Remarks on RSS, Claims He Echoes PFI Language

The BJP has condemned Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for his comments regarding the RSS, alleging he uses language similar to that of the PFI and Muslim League. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra urged Kharge to understand the historical context of the RSS before making such statements.

The BJP has criticised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for his remarks on the RSS, accusing him of echoing the sentiments of the Popular Front of India, Muslim League, and Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind. Kharge had expressed his personal view that the RSS should be banned, attributing many law and order issues in India to the BJP-RSS alliance.

Kharge also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of disrespecting Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's legacy by allowing government employees to associate with the Sangh. In response, BJP MP and national spokesperson Sambit Patra stated, "We vehemently condemned Kharge's remarks about the RSS. The language that he used today to talk about the RSS is the language of the Popular Front of India, Muslim League and Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind."

Historical Context of RSS

Patra urged Kharge to educate himself on the history of both the RSS and India before making such statements. He highlighted that Mahatma Gandhi, B R Ambedkar, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Indira Gandhi had all commented on the Sangh in the past. Patra noted that after visiting a Sangh camp in Wardha in 1934, Gandhi was impressed by its discipline and lack of untouchability.

Similarly, Ambedkar visited a Sangh camp in Pune in 1939 and appreciated the equality between upper and lower castes within the organisation. Following the 1962 India-China war, Nehru invited the Sangh to participate in the 1963 Independence Day celebrations. Patra emphasised that these events are part of recorded history.

Clarifications on Historical Events

Patra also addressed allegations regarding Mahatma Gandhi's assassination. He mentioned that the Kapoor Commission had cleared the RSS of any involvement, and this was supported by a Supreme Court verdict available to the public. He reiterated that from Gandhi to Pranab Mukherjee, many leaders have praised the Sangh.

Patra concluded by advising Kharge to study both RSS history and India's history thoroughly. He stressed that understanding what various Congress leaders have said about the Sangh is crucial for informed commentary.

The BJP's rebuttal highlights a longstanding debate over historical interpretations and political affiliations in India. This exchange underscores ongoing tensions between major political parties regarding their perspectives on national organisations like the RSS.
