The BJP announced that it has conceded defeat in Karnataka.

BJP Concedes Defeat In Karnataka

While early trends showed that the BJP was leading, but the Congress later gathered speed and shot past the majority mark.

Current trends show that the Congress is ahead in 125 seats, while the BJP is leading in 68. The majority mark in the 224 member house of the Karnataka Assembly is 113.

The trends also indicate that the exit polls have gone horribly wrong. The polls had suggested that the JD(S) was expected to play kingmaker. Had this were to happen the JD(S) to perform well in the Old Mysuru Region, where the Vokkaliga community is in majority. The JD(S) relies heavily on the Vokkaliga votes. However looking at the trends it appears that D K Shivakumar of the Congress also from the same community has managed to prevail over this electorate.
