Congress Critiques Prime Minister Modi: BJP Represents Betrayal and Jumla
The Congress party launched a strong critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his remarks on their election promises. Party leader Mallikarjun Kharge stated that Modi's assurances are a "cruel joke" on India's 140 crore citizens. He criticised the BJP, saying the 'B' stands for betrayal and 'J' for jumla, accusing Modi's government of deceit and publicity stunts.

Kharge questioned Modi's claims about creating two crore jobs annually, pointing out India's high unemployment rate. He also highlighted issues like stampedes at job vacancies and alleged that government jobs were lost due to privatisation. Kharge further criticised the government's economic policies, mentioning rising household costs and increased prices of essential items.
Congress Leaders Criticise BJP's Track Record
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah accused the BJP of leaving Karnataka with corruption and debt. He claimed Congress fulfilled its promises with a budget exceeding Rs 52,000 crore. Siddaramaiah asserted that Congress redirected resources to benefit people, contrasting it with BJP's alleged failures.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu echoed similar sentiments. He stated that his government is committed to inclusive development and has already delivered on half of its election promises. Sukhu emphasised their vision for making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant by 2027.
Congress Accuses Modi of Unfulfilled Promises
Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel criticised Modi for engaging in "petty politics." Baghel insisted that Congress had fulfilled its commitments in Chhattisgarh and urged Modi to avoid blame games for political gain. He expressed hope for more responsible leadership from the Prime Minister.
Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal also targeted Modi, questioning the delivery of promises like housing for all by 2022 and smart cities. Venugopal highlighted Congress's welfare initiatives in Karnataka, contrasting them with BJP's alleged election gimmicks.
Modi's Response to Congress Criticism
Prime Minister Modi responded by accusing Congress of making unrealistic promises they cannot fulfil. He criticised the fiscal health of Congress-ruled states like Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana. Modi argued that these states are experiencing worsening developmental trajectories under Congress leadership.
Kharge continued his attack by questioning Modi's handling of international relations and economic policies. He accused the government of favouring Chinese investments post-Galwan clash and ruining ties with neighbouring countries. Kharge also criticised changes in military recruitment through the Agnipath scheme.
Siddaramaiah highlighted Congress's achievements in Karnataka, contrasting them with BJP's alleged failures nationwide. He claimed that Congress is delivering on its promises while BJP continues to fail Indians across the country.
The ongoing exchange between Congress and BJP reflects deep political divisions ahead of upcoming elections. Both parties are striving to convince voters of their governance models and track records in fulfilling promises made to the public.
