Bihar Social Security Pension Hiked to ₹1100: Over 1 Crore Beneficiaries to Benefit from July
In a major welfare boost, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday announced a substantial hike in the state's Social Security Pension Scheme. The monthly pension has been increased from ₹400 to ₹1100 for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, widows, and other eligible beneficiaries.
The announcement was made via a post on X (formerly Twitter), where the Chief Minister shared that the enhanced pension will be disbursed starting July 2025.

"I am happy to inform you that under the Social Security Pension Scheme, widowed women, elderly and disabled people will now get a pension of ₹1100 instead of ₹400 every month. All beneficiaries will get a pension at the increased rate from the month of July. It will be ensured that this amount is sent to the account of all beneficiaries on the 10th of the month. This will help 1 crore 9 lakh 69 thousand 255 beneficiaries," Nitish Kumar stated.
Monthly Disbursement on the 10th
The Bihar government clarified that the revised pension will be credited to beneficiaries' bank accounts on the 10th of every month. This change is aimed at ensuring timely financial support for some of the state's most vulnerable groups.
Who Benefits from the Hike?
The increased pension applies to the following groups under the state's social welfare umbrella:
Senior Citizens
Persons with Disabilities
Widowed Women
Other eligible citizens under Bihar's Social Security Pension Scheme
This move is expected to improve the living conditions of low-income households and bring much-needed relief in the face of inflation and rising daily expenses.
Beneficiary Impact
The decision affects over 1.09 crore people across Bihar, making it one of the largest pension disbursement enhancements in recent years. The financial implication underscores the Nitish Kumar government's focus on inclusive welfare and social security.
A Step Toward Welfare Reform
This announcement comes at a time when several states are revisiting their social welfare programs. The pension hike in Bihar is seen as a strong step toward strengthening the state's social safety net and promoting financial dignity for senior and vulnerable populations.
