Bihar: PM Modi Calls Makhana A 'Superfood', Says He Consumes It 300 Days A Year
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hailed Makhana as a superfood, revealing that he consumes fox nuts for 300 days a year due to their numerous health benefits.
He also spoke on the need to expand its production on a global scale.

Speaking at a rally in Bhagalpur, Bihar-where Assembly elections are scheduled this year-PM Modi highlighted Makhana's significance in daily diets across the country. Before his speech, he was honoured with a garland made of Makhana.
"Makhana has become an essential part of breakfast in cities across the country today. Out of 365 days, I also eat Makhana for 300 days. It is a superfood," he declared at the rally.
He further stated, "The announcement of forming the Makhana Board in Bihar has been made in the Union Budget. Makhana must now reach markets worldwide."
On February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed establishing a Makhana Board in Bihar to boost production, processing, value addition, and marketing of the crop.
Sitharaman made the announcement as Bihar, currently governed by the Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) in alliance with the BJP, is set to hold elections in October-November this year.
Bihar is India's leading producer of fox nuts, accounting for 80 per cent of the country's supply. However, despite rising global demand for this superfood, the state has struggled to fully capitalise on its potential.
Rich in essential nutrients, Makhana is a valuable addition to a balanced diet. With its high fibre content, it helps combat inflammation and ageing, regulate blood sugar, improve insulin sensitivity, and support weight management and heart health.
