Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Reacts On Lalu Yadav's "Doors Open" Offer

Bihar's Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, has firmly rejected any reconciliation with Opposition leader Lalu Yadav. When questioned about Mr Yadav's statement that his "doors are open," Mr Kumar made it clear that there is no turning back. The Janata Dal (United), or JD(U), led by Mr Kumar, was previously part of the Grand Alliance with Mr Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and others.

Mr Kumar parted ways with the alliance due to disagreements and later joined the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He remarked, "Those who were in power before us... did they do anything? People used to fear stepping out of their homes after sunset. I had by mistake ('galti se') aligned with them a couple of times," highlighting his past association with the RJD.

Political Dynamics in Bihar

In response to Mr Yadav's comments, Mr Kumar emphasised the progress made under his leadership. He pointed out initiatives like self-help groups named Jivika, which inspired a similar model called Ajivika at the national level. "Did you see such confident rural women earlier?" he asked, underscoring the empowerment of women in Bihar.

Meanwhile, Lalu Yadav's son, Tejashwi Yadav, has been vocal about not collaborating with Mr Kumar again. "Our door is closed for Nitish Kumar forever. We do not need him. There is nothing left in Nitish now. The people of Bihar trust me, and this time we will form the government on our own," he asserted.

NDA's Strategy for Upcoming Elections

The BJP has expressed its support for Mr Kumar as the NDA's chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming assembly election scheduled within a year. This endorsement came shortly after Union Home Minister Amit Shah seemed to position Mr Kumar as their choice for leadership in Bihar.

The BJP fell short of a majority in the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year and relies on allies like JD(U) and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's TDP to maintain power at the centre.

Foundation Stone Ceremony in Muzaffarpur

During a visit to Muzaffarpur, where he laid the foundation stone for a Rs 450-crore project, Mr Kumar addressed Mr Yadav's ambiguous offer. The RJD had previously stated it would never collaborate with him again.
