Bihar Clock Tower Worth Rs 40 Lakh Stops Working In A Day; Internet Can’t Believe It | Photos Inside
A newly built clock tower in Bihar Sharif, Bihar, has caused quite a stir on social media after it reportedly stopped working just a day after it was made operational. The clock, which was allegedly built at a cost of Rs 40 lakh, has attracted strong criticism online for both its design and its performance.
Photos Go Viral, Public Reacts
Pictures of the tower were widely shared on the platform X, formerly Twitter. Many users expressed disappointment, saying the structure lacked beauty and looked incomplete. Several also questioned the use of public money, calling the clock tower a wasteful expense.

The controversy grew further when people noticed the clock had stopped working within 24 hours of being made functional. Social media users mocked the tower by pointing out that it only showed the correct time twice a day-specifically at 4:20, as seen in the viral photos.
Theft And Poor Design Blamed
Reports suggest that the clock stopped working after thieves stole copper cables from inside the tower. But for many online, this was not the main issue. What upset them more was the unfinished look and poor quality of construction.
Photos shared by users showed rough concrete edges, a lack of detailed design, and basic white paint. Some even shared what they claimed were the original design plans, which looked very different from the actual structure.
One post read, "This shabbily painted, poorly finished, concrete clock tower in Bihar Sharif, built under the 'Smart City' project, had its clock stop working within 24 hours of inauguration. Guess the cost? Only Rs 40 lakh!"
Commissioner Faces Online Criticism
The Municipal Commissioner of Bihar Sharif, Deepak Kumar Mishra, was tagged in several critical posts. Some sarcastically thanked him for the tower, while others questioned him about the spending and poor planning.
At one point, his X account appeared to be protected, meaning only approved followers could see his posts. Later, it seemed that his account had been deleted entirely.

Clarification From The Commissioner
In response to the growing criticism, Mishra told The Indian Express that the clock tower had not yet been formally inaugurated. He explained that it was only made briefly operational during Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Pragati Yatra.
He further said that the tower became non-functional after unknown persons stole an electric cable. Repair work is needed to get it working again.
Regarding the cost, he clarified that the entire project, which includes the clock tower as part of the larger Nala Road Project, had an estimated cost of Rs 20 lakh, not Rs 40 lakh as claimed online.
"The construction of the clock tower will be completed along with the rest of the project," he said.
