Bhindranwale’s nephew and his role in the arrest of Amritpal Singh

The nephew of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale is in the news following the arrestor radical Sikh preacher, Amritpal Singh.

The former chief of the Akal Takht, Jasbir Singh Rode who is also the nephew of Bhindranwale is said to have been behind the arrest and surrender of Singh, reports say.

Jasbir is said to have provided information to the security agencies after it was learnt that Singh was planning on surrendering at the Rodewal gurdwara. An India Today report said that Amritpal had planned to surrender before the police in the presence of his supporters.

Jasbir was informed by Amritpal that he wanted to surrender at the Moga gurdwara. He also had secretly informed the Punjab police about the presence of Amritpal at the religious place.

Amritpal Singh had come to the gurdwara on Saturday night. He had himself informed the police about his plan to surrender, Jasbir said. It was further reported that Singh had prepared his own kit, changed his dress, put the slippers on is feet and went to Sant Khalsa gurdwara in Rode village, the report also said.

"I may be guilty in the world court, but in the court of the almighty,"Singh had said prior to his arrest.

Singh following his arrest was shifted to a jail in Assam. Along with him nine of his aides too are in a jail in Assam.

Amritpal had gained a lot of tractions after he came to Punjab from Dubai. His followers however turned away in large numbers, following the crackdown by the Punjab Police. Amritpal and his supporters had barged into the barged into the Ajnala police station seeking the release of one of their aides. Since the crackdown, the police arrested Amritpal's mentor Pabalpreet Singh. Following this Singh's wife Kirandeep Kaur was stopped at the airport from leaving Punjab. All these events eventually led to the arrest of Amritpal Singh.
