Bhatkal native Damudi held the key to ISIS recruitments in Hyderabad
New Delhi, Nov 23: India will make all efforts to secure the custody of Adnan Hasan Damudi, the Bhatkal resident who has been detained in Dubai over his alleged links with the ISIS.
Damudi was detained in Dubai after Indian agencies had tipped off their counterparts about his alleged activities.

Ansar-ul-Tawhid active:
Some of the alleged activities by Damudi on the internet point to the fact that he was a recruiter for the ISIS. The ISIS relies on the Ansar-ul-Tawhid for recruitments in India and this outfit is run by Sultan Armar also a resident of Bhatkal.
His activities on the web were first spotted by the Telangana police.
The police during their investigation found that he had managed to lure at least 20 youth from Hyderabad. The list also included some women, investigations had also found.
On further investigation they found that Damudi who originally hails from Bhatkal had completed his graduation at the Karnataka University in Dharwad.
Following his graduation he left for Dubai where he worked as an assistant delivery coordinator. It is still unclear how he came in touch with the ISIS although Indian Intelligence Bureau officials suspect that his association with Armar could have led him in.
Damudi would operate with his twitter handle @andnandamudi. It is through this account that Damudi would spread the propaganda and also recruit youth.
His name had cropped up for the first time when the Hyderabad police detained nearly 16 youth for trying to join the ISIS. It was their interrogation that led to the name of Damudi.
Providing a route map:
Indian agencies have found that Damudi apart from alleged recruitments also would help recruits with a route map. There have been instances where he has advised recruits to take a particular route in order to reach either Iraq or Syria.
In the case of the Hyderabad youth, he had advised them to reach West Bengal and then infiltrate into Bangladesh. From Bangladesh they were to be flown into either Iraq or Syria. However these youth were apprehended in West Bengal and brought back to Hyderabad.
Indian officials are in talks with their counterparts in Dubai in a bid to secure his extradition or deportation. The Telangana police which has sought his custody would want to go into the extent of recruitments he has carried out.
However, there is still not much clarity on the status of Damudi in Dubai. We are still working out some of the formalities, officials informed.
