Bharat Taxi To Take On OLA, UBER; Services To Start In Delhi From January 1

Delhi commuters will soon have a new option as the Centre launches India's first indigenous taxi service, Bharat Taxi, on January 1. The service is planned as an alternative to existing app-based cabs, offering rides in cars, auto-rickshaws, and bikes. Operational preparations are complete, and the platform follows a zero-commission model.

Unlike many private aggregators, Bharat Taxi is set to be run by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited. The system follows a driver-owned cooperative structure, which aims to give drivers more control. The Bharat Taxi app model is designed to function as an independent platform, reducing reliance on private cab companies.

Through Bharat Taxi, drivers are expected to receive a larger share of each trip fare. The model proposes that drivers can earn up to 80 per cent of the fare directly. A monthly credit system has been created to manage payments, with the goal of offering more stable income and better working conditions.

The Bharat Taxi app is being launched at a time when dynamic pricing during peak hours troubles many users. Frequent complaints involve drivers declining rides or cancelling bookings after confirmation. The new Bharat Taxi framework includes arrangements to record and address such issues on a daily basis through defined processes.

Bharat Taxi will be available on both Android and iOS platforms to increase reach across users. After downloading the Bharat Taxi app, customers will need to register by entering basic details. They can then add pick-up and drop-off locations, choose the preferred vehicle type, and monitor the trip in real time.
