Bharat Rice Priced At Rs 29 Per Kg Halted, Govt's Surprise Move Leaves Consumers In The Lurch
The government has temporarily suspended 'Bharat rice' scheme from July. The subsidised rice, which was available in 5 kg and 10 kg packs, is now unavailable even online.
In February, the government introduced Bharat Rice to support financially unstable and economically weaker sections of society. Priced at Rs. 29 per kilogram, this initiative aimed to help poor families save between Rs. 1500 to Rs. 2000 on their monthly food expenses. Subsidized Bharat Rice could be purchased online via mobile apps from NAFED, NCCF, and Kendriya Bhandar. Additionally, the Central Government had planned to make Bharat Rice available on e-commerce platforms like Flipkart and Big Basket.

Bharat Rice, provided by the Central Government, offered a subsidized rate to low and middle-income citizens of India. The scheme had set the price at Rs. 29 per kilogram, significantly lower than the regular market price of Rs. 38 to Rs. 110 per kilogram. This substantial discount had allowed economically weaker individuals to save on their food expenses. The Food Corporation of India (FCI) had supplied around 5 lakh metric tonnes of rice to cooperative societies such as NAFED, NCCF, and Kendriya Bhandar for distribution. Bharat Rice had been available in convenient 5 kg and 10 kg packages.
How to Buy Bharat Rice Online
For those who preferred online shopping, Bharat Rice had been readily available on several platforms. It could be purchased from the mobile apps of Kendriya Bhandar, NAFED, and NCCF. It had also been available on popular e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Big Basket, and Flipkart.
