West Bengal Cabinet Approves 0.9 Acres of Land for BSF Border Outpost in Nadia District

The West Bengal cabinet has sanctioned the allocation of approximately 0.9 acres of land in Karimpur, Nadia district, to the Border Security Force (BSF). This land may be used for establishing outposts and installing wired fences. A senior official confirmed that the paramilitary force had communicated their land needs to the state government, which was discussed in a cabinet meeting at the state secretariat.

Bengal Cabinet Approves Land for BSF Outpost

Amidst recent tensions, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BSF of permitting infiltration from Bangladesh. Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition, criticised Banerjee's comments, stating they insulted the 75,000 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and 33,000 BSF personnel in Bengal. He also claimed that the state's lack of cooperation was delaying fence construction along the India-Bangladesh border.

State Cabinet Decisions

The cabinet also approved the assembly's budget session starting February 10, with the budget presentation set for February 12. Additionally, they sanctioned filling 60 vacancies across various departments. In recognition of the Bengal Santosh Trophy-winning football team, jobs in the state police will be offered to players facing recruitment challenges due to specific physical shortcomings.

Furthermore, two new police stations will be established for the Special Task Force (STF) in New Town and Siliguri. However, no separate appointments will be made for these stations at this time. The state cabinet also decided to appoint 881 contractual bus drivers and conductors in the transport department.

Upcoming Events and Directives

Chief Minister Banerjee instructed all state departments to collaborate effectively for the successful organisation of the 8th Bengal Global Business Summit on February 5-6. She also urged her cabinet colleagues to stay vigilant during Saraswati Puja celebrations on February 3, stressing the need to maintain law and order to prevent any disruptions or threats to state security.

The BJP leader alleged that land acquisition for a 284 km long fence was pending at the state level. This decision by the cabinet comes amidst these ongoing issues and discussions regarding border security and infiltration concerns.

The West Bengal government's recent decisions reflect a focus on enhancing security measures and addressing employment challenges within the state. These initiatives aim to bolster infrastructure and ensure effective governance across various sectors.
