Stand-up comedian Pranit More apologized after a viral crowdwork clip showed him laughing at an audience member's remark linking ₹370 spent on biryani to expecting intimacy, admitting it was a lapse in judgment.

What Is The ₹370 Biryani Controversy?

The backlash stems from a viral clip from one of More's crowdwork sessions. During the interaction, an audience member narrated an incident from a date, claiming he had spent around ₹360-370 on chicken biryani for a woman.

According to the man, after the meal, the woman asked him to drop her home. Recalling his response, he said, "Maine kaha yaar 370 rupaye lage hai, wasool toh karunga" (I spent ₹370, I am going to get my money's worth), implying that he expected intimacy in return.

The remark drew laughter from sections of the audience. More also laughed during the exchange and referred to it as a "peak Gurgaon moment."

The clip quickly spread across social media platforms, with many users calling the joke misogynistic and offensive. Several criticised More for failing to challenge the remark and instead laughing along with it.

Pranit More Apologises

Following the criticism, More shared a statement on Instagram Stories, admitting that he had handled the situation poorly.

"I've seen the criticism regarding a recent crowdwork clip. The comments made by the audience member do not reflect my views. Looking back, I should have challenged the remark instead of laughing and moving on. That was a lapse in judgment on my part," he wrote.

The comedian said that while crowdwork often requires performers to react instantly, that was not an excuse for his response.

"Live crowdwork often involves reacting in real time, but that's not an excuse. I take the feedback seriously and will be more thoughtful in how I handle similar situations going forward," he added.

More also revealed that the video had been removed from all platforms.

"We've also removed the video from all our platforms, as I don't want to amplify or normalise those views," he said.

Thanking people who raised concerns, he said the incident had become a learning experience and promised to be more mindful in future interactions.

When Salman Khan Told Pranit More Not To Go 'Beneath The Belt'

The latest controversy has also revived discussions around More's earlier run-in with Salman Khan during Bigg Boss 19.

Shortly after entering the reality show, several old stand-up clips of More resurfaced online. In those routines, he joked about Khan's Panvel farmhouse, legal controversies and personal life.

One particular joke involving a woman in the audience and a reference to Khan's farmhouse attracted criticism. The issue eventually reached the Bigg Boss stage during Weekend Ka Vaar, where Salman directly addressed the comedian.

"Mujhe pata hai ki aapne mujhpe kya kya bola hai joki sahi nahi hai. Uss waqt aapko logon ko hasana tha, mera naam use karke, aapne voh kiya. I just don't think you should go beneath the belt," Salman told More.

Months later, More once again finds himself at the centre of a social media storm, this time over the viral ₹370 biryani clip and the debate surrounding his reaction to it.
