Baramulla police inquiry ordered after allegations of misconduct at Kunzer station

Police in Baramulla district, Jammu and Kashmir, have ordered an inquiry into alleged misconduct by police personnel following a reported altercation involving an advocate at Kunzer police station. The Senior Superintendent of Police has directed that a gazetted officer examine the sequence of events, including case registration, conduct of those involved, and any claims of excessive force, using statements and available evidence.

Police in Jammu and Kashmir ordered an inquiry into alleged misconduct by personnel in Baramulla district, a police spokesman said on Friday. The Baramulla Senior Superintendent of Police SSP directed the probe after claims arose over police conduct during an incident at a police station. The inquiry is meant to check the full sequence of events and fix responsibility under law.

The spokesman said the incident followed police action on June 10 in Dhobiwan village. A team from Kunzer police station was carrying out a status-quo order issued by the JMIC Tangmarg. Legal and preventive proceedings were started during this process. Soon after, reports said a dispute then took place involving an advocate and police officials.

To deal with the concerns, the SSP ordered a detailed inquiry led by a gazetted officer. The inquiry will look at the actions of all involved people. It will also study the events linked to the case registration. Allegations of misconduct or use of excessive force will be checked as part of the process.

The spokesman said statements from everyone concerned will be taken. Officials will also assess any evidence available from the incident. The inquiry is expected to weigh the facts, and test whether rules were followed. The aim is to ensure transparency, fairness, and objectivity during the review.

Baramulla police inquiry to run alongside case investigation

Police said action will follow if the inquiry finds lapses or rule breaks. The spokesman said, "It is assured that if any lapse, misconduct or deviation from established procedures on the part of any police personnel is found during the course of inquiry, appropriate action shall be taken and accountability shall be ensured strictly in accordance with law, the spokesman added.\" Police also said two processes will continue separately.

The spokesman said the probe into the registered case and the departmental inquiry will move on their own merits. The public was asked to avoid rumours and unverified claims. Police said people should allow legal procedures to continue without interference. The inquiry will decide the next steps based on recorded statements and reviewed evidence.
