Bank Holiday on July 14: Don’t Visit Your Branch on This Monday
Banks in Meghalaya will not operate on Monday, July 14, 2025. This closure is due to the Behdeinkhlam festival, a significant cultural event in the state. The Reserve Bank of India's list for July includes this day as a holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act. This information is crucial for anyone planning bank transactions in Meghalaya.
The Reserve Bank of India categorises holidays into three types: those under the Negotiable Instruments Act, those under both the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holidays, and bank account closing holidays. Banks generally close on the second and fourth Saturdays and every Sunday unless there are special circumstances.

Upcoming Bank Holidays in July 2025
In addition to July 14, banks will also be closed on July 16 in Uttarakhand for Harela and on July 17 in Meghalaya for U Tirot Singh's death anniversary. Tripura will observe a bank holiday on July 19 for Ker Puja. Nationwide closures are scheduled for July 20, 26, and 27 due to regular weekend holidays.
The Behdeinkhlam festival is celebrated annually after sowing season by the Pnar community in Meghalaya. Known as "chasing away the Demon of Cholera," it is a dance festival of the Jaintia tribes held at Jowai. The event seeks divine blessings for a good harvest and is one of Meghalaya's most famous festivals.
For those planning banking activities in other states, it's essential to note that Sikkim will have a bank holiday on July 28 for Drukpa Tshe-zi. These dates are part of the RBI's calendar that governs bank operations across India.
Understanding these holidays can help individuals plan their banking needs efficiently without facing unexpected closures. It's advisable to check local calendars or official announcements for any changes or additional holidays specific to regions.
