Bandh Tomorrow: Kashmir Bandh On April 23 After Pahalgam Attack That Claimed 26 Tourists Lives
Kahmir bandh: In response to the attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the loss of 26 tourists' lives on April 22, 2025, key business and travel trade groups in the Valley have declared a shutdown for the following day, April 23, 2025. This collective action aims to condemn the brutal act of violence that has not only plunged the region into grief but has also elicited a nationwide outcry. The strike, known locally as a bandh, will see a complete halt of all commercial, transport, and other business activities across the area.

The call for this shutdown comes from a unified front comprising the Chamber of Commerce and Industries Kashmir (CCIK), the Jammu and Kashmir Hoteliers Club (JKHC), various travel associations, transport providers, restaurateurs, and civil society organizations. Tariq Rashid Ghani, the President of CCIK, voiced the community's sentiments, stating, "We have called for Kashmir Bandh on April 23, i.e., Wednesday, against this barbaric act of violence." This statement underscores the community's determination to stand against acts of terror and to support those affected by the tragedy.
The tragic incident in Pahalgam, where gunmen targeted tourists, not only claimed 26 lives but also left many injured, including foreign nationals. This attack is perceived as an attempt to undermine the region and its thriving tourism sector. The consequent bandh signifies the deep impact of this event on the local economy and society, with major stakeholders in the tourism industry backing the decision for a complete shutdown.
In light of this tragic event, representatives from the business and trade sectors are set to hold a press conference at the Radission Collection. This meeting aims to further address the incident, discuss its repercussions on the region's economy and tourism, and outline future steps to combat such acts of violence. The community's united stance reflects a strong condemnation of terrorism and a commitment to resilience in the face of adversity.
