Bahraich Violence Accused Sarfaraz Shot In Encounter Near Nepal Border
The Uttar Pradesh police shot two individuals, identified as Sarfaraz and Talib, who are accused in the Bahraich violence case, on Thursday.
The pair were reportedly trying to escape to Nepal when the police intervened.

According to a statement from the Uttar Pradesh government, the incident occurred when a police team went to recover the weapon used in the murder based on information received from initial suspects. The accused opened fire on the police with the weapons they had, prompting retaliatory fire that left both Sarfaraz and Talib seriously injured. They are currently receiving medical treatment.
In connection with the case, police arrested five additional suspects on the same day. Bahraich Superintendent of Police (SP) Vrinda Shukla confirmed the identities of the injured individuals and noted, "I am here to assess their condition." The authorities also reported that the weapon used in the murder has been recovered.
Background of the Violence
The violence in Bahraich erupted on October 13 when 22-year-old Ram Gopal Mishra was shot dead during a Durga idol immersion procession. Following Mishra's death, angry mobs set fire to several shops and vehicles in the area, leading to widespread unrest.
Dr. Sanjay Kumar, the Chief Medical Officer of Bahraich, revealed that during the post-mortem examination of Mishra, approximately 25 to 30 pellets were discovered in his body. The report indicated serious injuries around his left eye and on his toenails, highlighting the brutal nature of the attack.
Since the outbreak of violence, law enforcement has been actively pursuing those involved. To date, 55 individuals have been arrested in connection with 11 separate cases related to the incident. Among those apprehended was Danish, also known as Shaheer Khan, one of the six accused named in the murder case. The first FIR was lodged at Hardi police station on the night of October 13 against six named suspects and four unidentified individuals.
Ongoing Security Measures
In response to the escalating violence, mobile internet and broadband services in the region were suspended for three days but have since been restored as authorities work to stabilize the situation. Multiple FIRs have been registered, with two cases recorded on both October 13 and 14, and seven cases on October 15.
The situation in Bahraich remains tense, with a heavy police presence to maintain order and prevent further violence. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic events and are focused on ensuring justice for the victims.
