Azam Khan Released from Sitapur Jail After Nearly Two Years, Thanks Supporters for Their Prayers

Azam Khan has been released from Sitapur jail after nearly two years. The former Uttar Pradesh minister expressed gratitude to his supporters and discussed his political future amidst speculation.

Samajwadi Party's Azam Khan was released from Sitapur jail after nearly two years. Party chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed that justice had finally been served. Khan, a former minister in Uttar Pradesh, thanked his supporters and vowed to fight false cases if the party regains power. He refrained from commenting on whether he felt justice was achieved.

Upon his release, Khan travelled to Rampur, his hometown, where a large crowd welcomed him. Supporters chanted slogans as he waved back from his car. His convoy faced police barricades at the district border, allowing only his and his sons' vehicles to pass through.

Supporters and Legal Battles

Rampur Bar Association president Satnam Singh Mattu described Khan's release as a victory for truth. He questioned whether a criminal could gather such support. Khan's lawyer, Zuber Ahmed Khan, expressed relief at his client's return home, noting the mental strain Khan endured during imprisonment.

The Allahabad High Court granted bail to Khan in a land encroachment case in Rampur. His name was added during reinvestigation five years after the initial FIR. Dressed in his signature attire, Khan left jail in a private vehicle without speaking to reporters gathered outside.

Political Reactions and Allegations

SP president Akhilesh Yadav alleged that numerous fabricated cases were filed against Khan. He promised to withdraw these cases if the SP returns to power in Uttar Pradesh. Yadav also accused the BJP of withdrawing cases against its leaders once in power.

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya stated that even if Khan joined the BSP, it wouldn't affect BJP's prospects in the 2027 elections. Meanwhile, BJP MLA Akash Saxena vowed to continue his fight against injustice, regardless of Khan's political affiliations.

Speculations and Denials

Rumours about Khan joining the Bahujan Samaj Party were dismissed by SP national general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav. He affirmed that Khan remains loyal to the Samajwadi Party and will continue to be supported by its leadership.

Khan's son Adeeb called him "the hero of the day" and mentioned that any statements would come from his father post-release. The district administration imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita to prevent incidents during the gathering.

The situation around the jail was chaotic despite restrictions, with vehicles managing to reach close by. City Circle Officer Vinayak Bhosle noted actions were necessary to prevent further complications.

Akhilesh Yadav highlighted Khan's role in India's socialist movement and expressed joy over his release. The SP plans to celebrate what they see as a triumph of justice for their senior leader.
