Ayodhya, January 1: The year 2024 holds immense significance for India, as it will witness two major events – the seating of Ram Lalla in the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the general elections. Both these events are considered highly auspicious, according to Acharya Satyendra Das, the chief priest of the Ram temple.

Ram Rajya and Chhapan Bhog

Speaking to reporters at his residence in Ayodhya, the octogenarian priest expressed his delight over the ongoing development work in the city. He believes that not only peace but also Ram Rajya, an ideal governance where everyone is happy, is on the horizon. Acharya Das quoted a couplet to emphasize the positive impact these events will have, stating that grief, pain, and tension will cease to exist, and everyone will be filled with joy.

To mark the New Year, Ram Lalla will be offered Chhapan Bhog, a special offering of 56 delicacies, and prasad will be distributed to devotees. The Chhappan Bhog offered on this occasion came in a specially designed box depicting Lord Ram and the upcoming temple, sourced from a renowned shop in Lucknow.

Significance of the New Year

Acharya Das highlighted the significance of the New Year, particularly the seating of Ram Lalla in the sanctum sanctorum of the under-construction temple on January 22. He believes this event will bring immense benefits to the people of the country.

Ayodhya's New Year Celebrations

Ayodhya welcomed the New Year with great enthusiasm. Organizers distributed worshipped akshat, a mixture of rice grains, turmeric, and ghee, to devotees, which will continue until January 15, a week before the consecration ceremony at the Ram temple. The city resonated with chants of Jai Shri Ram as residents and visitors gathered at the iconic Lata Mangeshkar Chowk near Naya Ghat. Many took a holy dip in the Saryu river, while others visited the Ramjanmabhoomi temple and Hanumangarhi temple to seek blessings.

Further Construction and Lok Sabha Elections

When asked about the further construction of the Ram temple, Acharya Das expressed that a lot of work lies ahead in 2024. He mentioned that the seating of Ram Lalla in the sanctum sanctorum and the Lok Sabha elections, both occurring in the same year, are considered auspicious and beneficial.

Historical Context and Development

The Ram temple issue has a long and complex history, dating back over a century. In a landmark verdict in 2019, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of constructing a Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya, while also mandating the allocation of an alternative five-acre plot for a mosque. This decision brought an end to a contentious issue that had sparked communal tensions in the past.

Since the historic verdict, Ayodhya has undergone significant development. The city has witnessed the construction of an airport, a new railway station, and the Ram Path, along with plans for additional infrastructure projects. Acharya Das expressed his belief that these developments will enhance the grandeur of Ayodhya and attract more visitors for darshan.

As Ayodhya embarks on a new year filled with auspicious events and ongoing development, the city looks forward to a future of peace, prosperity, and spiritual fulfillment. The seating of Ram Lalla in the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram temple symbolizes a significant milestone in the city's history and holds immense significance for millions of devotees across India.
