August 7 School Holiday: Will Schools, Colleges Remain Open In Uttarakhand?

Amid continuous heavy rainfall and a cloudburst in Dharali, the Uttarakhand government has announced a school holiday on August 7 in several districts. The decision affects all government and private schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centres, impacting students from Class 1 to 12.

According to the State Department of Information and Public Relations, educational institutions in Champawat, Pauri Garhwal, and Udham Singh Nagar districts will remain closed until further notice. Authorities said the reopening dates will be announced based on weather conditions.

The announcement comes after a cloudburst hit Dharali village, prompting the state administration to take urgent preventive measures. The intense rains have disrupted daily life across many parts of Uttarakhand, with warnings of further downpours issued.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to remain on high alert round-the-clock. Medical officers have also been deployed in vulnerable areas. In a press release, officials confirmed that leaves for all personnel have been cancelled to ensure immediate response to emergencies.

People living near the Pindar River and other low-lying areas have been safely relocated. The government has set up shelters and advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, stay indoors, and keep emergency supplies ready.

Ambulance services are actively operating in the affected districts. Authorities have stressed that all injured individuals will be provided timely medical assistance, and disaster response units are monitoring the situation closely.

The Uttarakhand government is expected to issue updates as the weather develops. Residents are urged to stay informed through official channels and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
