Assistant Professor in MP College Seriously Injured After Assault by Ex-Student

An assistant professor of Sanskrit at the Government Jaywanti Haksar JH College was subjected to a brutal attack on Friday afternoon, as reported by the police. The incident, which has shocked the local community, involved the professor being assaulted by a former student and several accomplices. The authorities have launched an investigation, with an attempt to murder case already filed against the perpetrators.

MP College Prof Severely Attacked

The assault was carried out with a chilling level of premeditation and violence. Eyewitness accounts reveal that Annu Thakur, identified as one of the assailants, along with 5-7 others, incapacitated the professor by throwing chilli powder in his eyes before mercilessly beating him with rods until he lost consciousness. The severity of the attack prompted immediate medical attention, and the victim has since been transferred to Bhopal for specialized treatment due to the seriousness of his injuries.

Betul Superintendent of Police, Nischal Jharia, confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act. Meanwhile, Devkaran Deharia, in charge of Kotwali police station, assured that a case has been registered and the culprits would be arrested shortly. Surveillance footage capturing the attackers approaching the victim's room has become a crucial piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation.

Despite the chaos of the attack, no one intervened to halt the assault, and it was only after the attackers fled that the victim received any assistance. The college community is reeling from the incident, with many expressing disbelief and concern over safety measures on campus.

The motive behind this violent act remains unclear. Ghanshyam Madaan, president of JH College Janbhagidari Samiti, noted that while the attackers were not current students of the college, there had been previous confrontations involving attempts to steal from and physically assault the professor. These past incidents may shed light on potential motives for this attack.

This incident has raised serious questions about campus security and the safety of educators in their workplace. As investigations continue, there is a growing call for measures to prevent such violence against teachers and to ensure that educational institutions remain safe havens for learning and intellectual development.
