Ashoka University Professor Approaches Supreme Court After Arrest Over 'Operation Sindoor' Facebook Post
Ashoka University professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad, who was arrested by the Haryana Police for a Facebook post related to 'Operation Sindoor', has now approached the Supreme Court seeking relief.
The matter was brought to the court's attention by Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, who mentioned the petition before Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai on Monday, requesting an urgent listing.

"Mylords, a professor at Ashoka University has been proceeded against for an entirely patriotic statement on Operation Sindoor. Mylords may list it immediately," Sibal said during the brief mention.
Responding to the request, CJI Gavai agreed to list the matter day after tomorrow.
Earlier, a Magistrate court remanded Professor Mahmudabad to two days of police custody, following his arrest on Sunday.
The Narendra Modi administration was chastised by the Congress on Sunday for "double standards" after Ali Khan Mahmudabad, the director of the Political Science Department at Ashoka University, was arrested for posting on Facebook about "Operation Sindoor.
" The party drew attention to the difference between the absence of accountability for BJP ministers who it alleged had made disparaging statements about the armed services and the prompt action taken against a professor for a "thoughtful" article denouncing violence. "His only error is that he wrote this post," said Congressman Pawan Khera on social media. His name is his other error, implying that the arrest was motivated by religious prejudice.
