Asaduddin Owaisi's Controversial Slogans During Oath Expunged From Parliament Records

The incident involving AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi's 'Jai Palestine' slogan during the oath-taking ceremony for the 18th Lok Sabha generated a major row Tuesday.

With the latest news coming in, it appears that Owaisi's sloganeering has been expunged from Parliament records.

After taking his oath in Urdu, Owaisi ended it with a 'Jai Palestine' slogan that led to an uproar from the treasury benches. As the Hyderabad MP was taking oath, BJP MP's started chanting 'Jai Shree Ram' slogan.

Radha Mohan Singh, who was presiding at the time, assured members that anything apart from the official oath would not go in the Parliament's records, reported India Today. This stance was supported by Pro tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab, who declared that all slogans used by newly elected MPs during the oath-taking would be expunged from the records.

Owaisi, who has been sworn in as a Lok Sabha member for the fifth time, later defended his actions on social media. He stated that there was no constitutional provision prohibiting him from making such remarks and his commitment to raising issues concerning India's marginalized communities stays strong.

"How is it wrong? Tell me the provisions of the Constitution? You should also listen to what others said. I said what I had to say," Owaisi said speaking to reporters outside the Parliament.
