Arvind Kejriwal Responds To EC Notice, Blames Haryana Again For Yamuna 'Water Poison'

Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), addressed the Election Commission's concerns regarding his claims about Yamuna river contamination. The commission had asked for evidence to support his accusation that Haryana was polluting the river. They also reminded him of potential legal consequences for making statements that could harm national unity and public peace.

The Election Commission highlighted the gravity of Kejriwal's allegations. He had equated the alleged poisoning of the Yamuna by a neighbouring state to acts of nuclear and biological warfare. The commission noted that Delhi Jal Board engineers detected this issue before it affected Delhi's water supply, underscoring its seriousness.

Yamuna Water Contamination Concerns

Kejriwal, in his response, asserted that no laws or codes were violated. He urged the Election Commission to address the critical issue of safe water availability. He requested directives for Haryana to ensure Delhi receives uncontaminated water. His statements aimed to spotlight severe toxicity in raw water from Haryana.

The root cause of this contamination, according to a letter from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), is unchecked discharge of untreated waste into the Yamuna upstream. This pollution has led to a significant public health crisis. Immediate action is needed to stop these activities, with upper riparian authorities responsible for ensuring safe water for Delhi.

Kejriwal emphasised that addressing this pollution is crucial for public health. He called for intervention to secure a safe water supply for Delhi residents. The ongoing contamination poses serious risks, necessitating urgent measures from responsible authorities.
