BJP's Parvesh Verma Suggests Arvind Kejriwal Might Not Contest from New Delhi in Upcoming Elections

BJP leader Parvesh Verma, a former MP from West Delhi, has suggested that AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal might switch his constituency for the upcoming assembly elections. Kejriwal, who has represented the New Delhi seat since 2013, is contesting from there for the fourth consecutive time. The AAP has not yet responded to Verma's statement.

Kejriwal May Change New Delhi Constituency

Verma, son of ex-Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma, claimed that BJP's national leadership has tasked him with preparing for the New Delhi assembly constituency elections. In a post on X, he stated, "Sources have told me that Arvind Kejriwal may change his seat. I just want to ask Kejriwal ji to please do not run away from New Delhi Assembly seat. Contest the polls with democratic dignity."

Allegations and Counterclaims

Kejriwal criticised Verma for allegedly distributing Rs 1,100 to women in New Delhi. He remarked that Verma's father would be ashamed of having a son he described as a traitor. In response, AAP lodged a complaint with the Enforcement Directorate (ED), accusing Verma of distributing cash in Kejriwal's constituency before the elections. They urged the ED to file a money laundering case against him.

Verma defended his actions by stating that the funds were distributed by Rashtriya Swabhiman, a social organisation founded by his father. He insisted he would continue supporting needy women until the election model code of conduct is enforced.

Upcoming Elections and Political Dynamics

The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February, involving 70 seats. The Congress has nominated Sandeep Dikshit, son of former three-time Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, to contest from New Delhi. This adds another layer of competition in the high-stakes political landscape.

The unfolding events highlight the intense political rivalry and strategic manoeuvres as parties gear up for the elections. The allegations and counterclaims between AAP and BJP underline the charged atmosphere leading up to the polls.
