Arvind Kejriwal Arrest: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Says Everyone Is Equal Before The Law

After representatives of Germany, the United States, and the United Nations made comments on Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's arrest, and freezing of Congress' bank accounts, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar slammed foreign nations stating India does not need lessons from anyone on the rule of law. Dhankar said India is a unique democracy, stressing that everyone is equal before the law.

"India is a democracy with a robust judicial system. This can't be compromised by any individual or any group. India does not need lessons from anyone on the rule of law," the Vice President told NDTV.

Earlier, Germany, the US, and the UN had called action against a sitting chief minister as "unwarranted", "biased" and "unacceptable".

Replying to a question, Jagdeep Dhankar said: "Equality before the law is the new norm" in India, slamming people who think that they are special or above the law, underlining that everyone is accountable.

When asked about INDIA Bloc leaders coming together and planning to protest at Delhi's Ramleela Maidan together ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2024, Jagdeep Dhankar said, "The moment the law takes its course, they (Opposition leaders) hit the streets, high-decibel debates, camouflaging culpability of the worst nature by human rights. This is happening under our nose".

"What is the justification for a person or an institution or an organisation to take to the streets when the law is set in motion?" Vice-President asked highlighting the Indian judicial system as robust, independent, and pro-people.

"Corruption is not a passage to opportunity, employment or a contract anymore. It is a passage to jail... Can you go on a high moral ground that the corrupt must not be dealt with because it is a festive season or it is farming season? How can there be any season to save those who are culpable," Vice President added.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on March 23 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with money laundering related to now scrapped Delhi Liquor Policy. He has been sent to custody till April 2 by the Rouse Avenue court.
