Arunachal Pradesh Leaders Call for Preservation of Indigenous Languages on International Mother Language Day

On International Mother Language Day, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy CM Chowna Mein emphasise the need to preserve indigenous languages as essential to cultural identity and heritage.

On Saturday, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein encouraged citizens to recommit to preserving indigenous languages. They emphasised that the mother tongue is crucial for cultural heritage and identity. This call to action coincided with International Mother Language Day, underscoring the importance of language in maintaining cultural identity.

Khandu highlighted the intrinsic link between language and identity. He stated, "On International Mother Language Day, we honour our mother tongues, the soul of our identity. Every language carries history, wisdom, and a unique way of seeing the world. When a language fades, a culture fades with it." His message was shared on X, urging people to cherish their native languages.

Preserving Linguistic Heritage

The Chief Minister stressed the collective duty to protect linguistic heritage. He encouraged everyone to actively engage in nurturing their native languages. "Let us speak, preserve, and pass on our languages with pride. Because language is memory. Language is identity," he asserted, highlighting the role of language in cultural continuity.

Deputy Chief Minister Mein echoed these views by focusing on Arunachal Pradesh's linguistic diversity. He noted that the state's numerous indigenous languages reflect its rich traditions and wisdom. "Our mother languages are the soul of our identity and the foundation of our cultural heritage," he mentioned in a social media post.

Commitment to Cultural Preservation

Mein called for ongoing efforts to safeguard linguistic diversity. He urged people to take pride in their linguistic heritage and renew their commitment to promoting every mother tongue. "Let us take pride in our linguistic heritage and renew our collective commitment to preserving, promoting, and celebrating every mother tongue," he added.

The emphasis from both leaders highlights the importance of language as a cultural cornerstone. Their messages serve as a reminder of the need for active participation in preserving linguistic traditions for future generations.
