Army Personnel Arrested in Meghalaya with Huge Cache of Military Ammunition and Animal Remains
An Army personnel from Mizoram was arrested in Meghalayas Ri-Bhoi district on Friday for possessing a large quantity of military ammunition and animal remains, including 1,001 rounds of AK-47, seven LMG 7.62 ammunition, and various animal parts.

In a significant development, an Army personnel was apprehended in Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi district on Friday, December 8, in possession of a substantial cache of military ammunition and animal remains. The arrest, meticulously planned by the state police and military intelligence, dealt a decisive blow to criminal elements targeting the state, according to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
Extensive Seizure of Military Ammunition
The seized items from the arrested individual, who hails from Mizoram, included a staggering 1,001 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, seven LMG 7.62 ammunition, 14 INSAS 5.56 ammunition, 30 .32 pistol ammunition, tear-smoke grenades, a hand grenade, an INSAS magazine, and three AK-47 magazines, as detailed by Ri-Bhoi's Superintendent of Police, SP Giri Prasad.
Animal Remains and Forged Documents
In addition to the military ammunition, the arrested individual was also found in possession of animal remains, including a lower jaw with the teeth of a wild boar, seven deer antlers, and the skull of a deer. Furthermore, stamps of various government departments were seized, indicating potential involvement in forgery.
Interstate Criminal Unmasked
Chief Minister Sangma identified the arrested individual as a notorious interstate criminal engaged in a wide range of illegal activities, including arms and wildlife trafficking, as well as forgery of official documents. An investigation is currently underway to uncover the full extent of his crimes and the network of criminals involved.
Legal Proceedings Initiated
A case has been registered against the arrested individual at the Khanapara police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Arms Act, and Wild Life Protection Act. The arrest and subsequent legal proceedings underscore the state's commitment to combating criminal activities and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
